Composition, Quantification, and Periodicity of Sex Pheromone Volatiles from Individual

چکیده
The airborne volatiles emitted from individual female Heliothis zea (Boddie) pheromone glands were collected by adsorption onto glass wool, analyzed, and quantified on an SP-2330 capillary GLC column All of the compounds previously reported from gland washes, 16: Ald, Z7-16:Ald, Z9-16: Ald and Zl l-16: Aid, were found in the volatile emissions The forcibly extruded female H zea phetomone glands exhibited a periodicity of pheromone release: maximal pheromone emission occurred between 1 and 2 h and the minimal pheromone emission between 5 and 21 h after the onset of scotophase 'I Key Word Index Sex pheromone, Helmthis zea, periodicity of emission

Rate and Periodicity of Pheromone Release from Individual Female Artichoke Plume Moths, Platyptilia carduidactyla (Lepidoptera: Pter~phoridae)~
The rate and periodicity of the emission of the sex pheromone [(a-1 1-hexadecenal] from the pheromone glands of individual female artichoke plume moths, Platyptzlia carduzdactyla, were quantified The mean rate of volatilization of (2)-11-hexadecenal from the glands of the moths peaked at 1 52 Â 0 41 (SE) nglmin during the scotophase, and was at low levels during the entire photophase This perio...
متن کاملSynthetic pheromones and plant volatiles alter the expression of chemosensory genes in Spodoptera exigua
Pheromone and plant odorants are important for insect mating, foraging food sources and oviposition. To understand the molecular mechanisms regulating pheromone and odorant signaling, we employed qRT-PCR to study the circadian rhythms of ABP, OBP, PBP, and OR gene expression in the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua and their responses after a pre-exposure to sex pheromone compounds or plant vola...
متن کاملCharacterization of Odorant Receptors from a Non-ditrysian Moth, Eriocrania semipurpurella Sheds Light on the Origin of Sex Pheromone Receptors in Lepidoptera
Pheromone receptors (PRs) are essential in moths to detect sex pheromones for mate finding. However, it remains unknown from which ancestral proteins these specialized receptors arose. The oldest lineages of moths, so-called non-ditrysian moths, use short-chain pheromone components, secondary alcohols, or ketones, so called Type 0 pheromones that are similar to many common plant volatiles. It i...
متن کاملAttraction of Cerambycid Beetles to Their Aggregation-Sex Pheromones Is Influenced by Volatiles From Host Plants of Their Larvae.
Here, we describe a field experiment that tested for attraction of cerambycid beetles to odors from angiosperm hosts, and whether plant volatiles also serve to enhance attraction of beetles to their aggregation-sex pheromones. Traps were baited with a blend of synthesized chemicals that are common pheromone components of species in the subfamilies Cerambycinae and Lamiinae. The source of plant ...
متن کاملCoding and interaction of sex pheromone and plant volatile signals in the antennal lobe of the codling moth Cydia pomonella.
In the codling moth Cydia pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) plant volatiles attract males and females by upwind flight and synergise the male response to the female-produced sex pheromone, indicating a close relationship between the perception of social and environmental olfactory signals. We have studied the anatomical and functional organisation of the antennal lobe (AL), the primary olfac...
